Cutting Mobile Roaming Charges

Cutting Mobile Roaming Charges

Despite the fact that the use of mobile phones abroad has become largely an essentiality and less of an avoidable option, those responsible for issuing epic roaming charges would often have consumers believe that they were asking for the world. However, there are thankfully a few key tips for cutting mobile roaming charges so as to avoid the traditional eye-watering bill upon returning home:

1 – Text-appeal

Any and every time a call can be replaced with a text, do it! A single minute of chatting can often cost more than several text messages, not to mention the potential for extortionate ‘connection charges'whatever on earth they may be. As such, when the purpose of the call is to be something minor and concise, a text makes a far more sensible option.

2 – Delay Data until Later

Unless a good package has been signed up for in advance, avoid data use abroad like the plague. Unlike calls and texts, data use is almost impossible to measure and ration out, therefore has been responsible for some of the most ridiculous mobile bills ever seen.

3 – Freebies

Always be on the lookout for free wi-fi hotspots where it is possible to use as much data and online services in general as could ever be desired. Skype makes the ideal choice for both calls and texts to be used whenever wi-fi is available.

4 – Go Native

Depending on the location and duration of the visit, it can often prove hugely economical to purchase a local SIM card to be used during the stay. Of course, all call charges and etc must be looked into in advance but can indeed prove surprisingly cheap compare to those from home.
